We were trying to get concessions from the Koreans on autos and beef. Are we about to go after concessions on autos, beef, labor, investment, finance, targeted tariff reduction for small and medium manufactures, and more focus on trade deficit reduction: The Korea - U.S. FTA: Negotiating with Congress.
It's amazing how one press story can start the pot to boiling. Rep. Michaud said Obama told him he would consider adding labor, investment and finance to the issues to be negotiated. What did he expect Obama to say? Screw you and the horse you rode in on? The U.S. side will NOT try to get concessions on those issues. Unlike Michaud, they know that if they did, the Koreans would walk away and never come back.
