One of the objectives of the Doha Round of WTO trade negotiations is to negotiate controls on fisheries subsidies. This could not only reduce trade distortions, but also incentives to overharvest fish.
Here is a new blog on fisheries subsidies; there are 12 posts since it opened for business on August 21. These describe the forms subsidies take in different countries, and point to issues that have come up in the Doha negotiation.
Ben,
Many thanks for your posting on my blog.
