Representative Marcy Kaptur of Ohio is running for Vice-Chairwoman of the House Democratic caucus on a three plank platform - one plank of which is criticism of free trade: Trade critic bids for House Leadership:
Rep. Marcy Kaptur, a fierce critic of free trade policies, has mounted a campaign for vice-chairwoman of the Democratic Caucus, an aide said Wednesday.
That appears to leave the contest for the No. 5 Democratic House position as a race between Kaptur (D-Ohio) and Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), assistant to the speaker and a former chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
Kaptur’s pitch to lawmakers focuses on her status as the senior woman in the House, her location in a battleground state and her criticism of free trade policies, said her spokeswoman Steve Fought.
Kaptur was first elected to the House in 1982. Since 1997, she's voted against trade barriers 27% of the time and against trade subsidies 33% of the time. Beccara's done much better on trade barriers, voting against 65% of the time since 1997, but not as well on trade subsidies, voting against only 8% of the time.
